5 Life Saving Sheepskin Boot Tips

5. Size up or Size down?

There are so many conflicting views on sizing, every manufacturer and ever person offers a different opinion. Sheepskin Boots seem to be a little unique among footwear due to their ability to mould and stretch to the dimensions of your foot, so what exactly is the best way to choose the right size? First of all it is not safe to assume the size of your other boots will correlate to the correct size. Secondly take the considerations of the manufacturer to mind, each will use the sizing information you supply differently. To choose the best size simply choose the measurement which best matches the measure of your foot from heel to toe. If you’re foot is in between choose the closest size, so a 26.3 cm foot will best fit in a 26cm boot (a US 9)

4. Avoid Stretching

Merino sheepskin is truly one of nature’s marvels, extremely light, unbelievably warm, wicks moisture and odors away and is easily the most comfortable material you’ll ever wear. But there are disadvantages as well, sheepskin does stretch leaving your boots looking sloppy and tired. While your sheepskin boots will eventually wear you can prolong the life and condition with a few simple tips. Do not allow your boots to get wet or even moist. The leathers become extremely soft while wet and will stretch very easily. Do not size your boots too small, if your toes are constantly pushing against the front of your boot they will eventually wear right through, the toeless boot is not a good look. For the same reason do not stuff your boots with jeans if its going to mean a really tight fit.

3. Stain Removal

If you’ve read the above tips you will already know that a washing machine is a very bad idea. What do you do if your sheepskin boots are stained then? Unfortunately if you’ve stained your boots with wax, alcohol, fat or paint (we’ve receive emails for all and more) then you’re probably not going to restore it to original condition no matter what you do. Please bear in mind we supply these instructions for the desperate; you can in fact damage your boots if you’re not careful with the following instructions. Purchase a suede stone or suede cleaning kit from Walmart or shoe store, use the stone to remove oil (it will absorb the oil back out of the sheepskin) and the suede shampoo to gently clean water based stains. You can also take your boots to most shoe repairers to have stains professionally removed. Some shoe repairers will also coat your boots with a silicon based agent to provide increased protection. For smaller stains simply clean your boots with a slightly damp cloth, brush in one direction and allow them to dry in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

2. Sheepskin boots are still hot fashion?

Sheepskin Boots are a controversial fashion accessory, people are polarized either adoring them or despising them. Over the past 5 years the number of people sharing their opinion on the worlds coziest footwear has increased and so its difficult to tell if there in or out. Sheepskin Boots are in, last year alone the number of sheepskin wearers doubled! This season is shaping up to be even more popular which leads us to our last tip.

1. Why are they so hard to get?

Our boots (and all authentic boots) are made from a scarce natural material, merino sheepskin. Demand is increasing every year and so manufacturers fight hard to fulfill orders, capacity of authentic manufacturers is limited and quickly outstripped by orders. Last season the increased popularity caught many manufacturers off guard, most people ordering from November onwards were forced to wait until March for their boots! People were selling sheepskin boots on Ebay for over $500! Our last tip is not to wait too long if you need your boots pre-Christmas.
